Arkema achieves ISCC PLUS Certification for waterborne resins at Italian facility

Arkema, a global leader in specialty materials, has received ISCC PLUS certification for its waterborne acrylic resins produced in Boretto, Italy. This achievement aligns with Arkema’s broader Mass Balance roadmap, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of its products.

The Boretto site now supports up to 100% Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) reduction. The certification confirms that the facility produces bio-attributed resins with up to 95% bio-based carbon content, equating to 50% bio-attributed content by weight in the products supplied.

Neil Tariq, General Manager of Coating Resins Europe, emphasized Arkema’s commitment. “We are dedicated to improving how our products are made and supporting industry efforts to lower carbon footprints,” he said. “This certification extends our sustainability efforts in the region and benefits our customers seeking greener solutions.”

Arkema’s Boretto plant produces a variety of Mass Balance solutions, including waterborne resins used in coatings, adhesives, and consumer products. The certification is part of a larger strategy that includes multiple Arkema facilities across the globe, such as in Saint Charles, Louisiana; Zwickau, Germany; and Changshu, China.

These sites are working toward certification across various technologies, including high solids, UV-LED-EB, and polyester powders. The goal is to provide a comprehensive range of bio-attributed specialty resins and additives, helping customers meet their sustainability targets.
