4 Sustainable Technologies To Be on the Lookout For

Everyday, someone comes up with an amazing idea. Every week, teams assemble to make it possible. And every year, we get to witness the hard work and incredible engineering of great minds. Here, we’ll show you 4 of the latest technologies that have made life better and more sustainable for hundreds of people around the world.

  1. PowerHouse Energy’s Waste-to-Energy Hydro System: Powerhouse Energy has invested in perfecting a chemical recycling process that can convert impossible-to-recycle plastic waste products into hydropower. The system works by extracting the plastics’ hydrogen in a chamber, heating the plastic until it becomes gas.
  2. Capturing Carbon: we all know that carbon sequestration has been around for ages, mostly through natural elements. However, human technology has never been able to do it as elegantly as nature, until now. Two molecules have been identified that will make capturing carbon much more cost efficient: ZIFs and Amines.
  3. PhotoSynthetica’s CO2 removal: Using microalgae as its base element, this pollutant removal system works by capturing solar radiation and CO2, creating a photosynthetic building cladding system.  It reduces energy consumption, sequesters carbon, stimulates microalgae production, and long-term promises to improve urban air quality.
  4. Pee Power: Developed in Bristol, Pee Power turns organic matter, such as urine, into electricity. Simultaneously, it cleans the urine, creating a plant fertilizer as a natural by-product. Microbial fuel cells take a portion of the biochemical energy used for microbial growth, and convert that directly into electricity.
